Who We Are
The Saskatoon Evangelical Free Church is part of a larger network of over 140 Evangelical Free Churches across Canada. Our local fellowship seeks to serve Jesus Christ and our community here in Saskatoon. To that end, we meet together regularly for worship and teaching, prayer and fellowship, so that we might encourage each other to share our faith in Christ with the world, and live lives of hope and obedience to Him. We believe that the Bible is the Word of God and is relevant in meeting the real needs of people in the new millennium.
In the past ten years God has begun to transform us into a more missional church, giving us a vision for Five Zones Of Ministry. This vision has become the grid for our prayer, support, and ministry decisions. Included in this paradigm is the support of missionaries in four specific countries around the world, as well as local outreach opportunities here in Saskatoon. God has also increased our vision for youth ministry as we reach out to our community. A new youth wing has just recently been developed to accommodate this growing work.
We believe that you will find faith and friendship at this church. We have a great mix of young families, singles, middlers, youth, and seniors, and we design our Sunday morning worship with that in mind. We have a healthy blend of contemporary and traditional worship to encourage all ages in their walk with Christ. We trust that you will experience the love of Jesus when you visit us, and that you might find this church to be a warm and welcoming group of believers who challenge each other to grow in our walk with Christ, and who support each other in our love of God!
Our Mission
...is to be a worshipping community which builds mature disciples who love one another, and who share the good news of Jesus Christ both at home and abroad for the glory of God.
Our Background
In the spring of 1979, a group of believers were looking for a fresh start, a church they where they could grow, fellowship & serve Christ together. One of the group had heard about the Evangelical Free Church of America who were branching out into Canada and at the time had no congregation in Saskatoon. So the goup approached the denomination about partnering with the EFCC, and that summer the Saskatoon Evangelical Free Church was born. The Evangelical Free Church Of America was very helpful in the purchase of a property and the subsidy of a budget until the church could establish itself financially. It began with a group of several families, of which 25 people became charter members. Services were held in the Father Vachon School on Centennial Drive with Rev. George Litke installed as the first pastor on September 9, 1979. During the next three years the small fellowship grew. God provided a choice piece of land on the corner of Circle Drive and Laurier, and in June of 1982, the Saskatoon Evangelical Free Church moved into Phase I . In May of 2000 we completed Phase 2 of the facility, a new sanctuary as well as additional office space and Christian Education classrooms, all for the glory and service of God!
